Interested in Medical Device Sales Careers? Here’s How to Find a Job

If you’re looking to apply to medical device sales jobs, you are most likely wondering how to find jobs that suit your career goals in medical sales. At the time of this posting, Indeed has over 5,600 medical device job openings listed and that’s just scraping the surface!

There are different approaches to finding medical device sales jobs, especially if you already have experience in the industry. Keep reading to learn where to find these job openings and some tips for applying.

If you have medical device sales experience…

If you already have a background working in medical sales, you’ll likely show up in LinkedIn searches when recruiters have open positions to fill. That’s why it’s so important to keep your LinkedIn and resume updated — make sure your title, company, and accolades, such as Presidents Club, are on there.

If you work or have worked for one of the larger medical device companies such as Stryker or Johnson and Johnson, that helps get more attention from recruiters looking for candidates with top-tier sales experience.

Additionally, if you have a few years of medical sales experience under your belt, you have likely made connections with other like-minded people in the industry. Reach out to them to see if they have anyone in their network who may be hiring.

If you don’t have medical device sales experience…

If you are just starting out in the medical sales field, you may be the one reaching out to recruiters for leads. Link up with anyone with the job title “medical device recruiter” on their LinkedIn — connections are important in this industry. This is where having an updated LinkedIn profile is key as well; even if you don’t currently have medical device sales experience, you can update your profile to “actively seeking medical sales opportunities” to grab their attention quickly.

Reach out to current sales reps for guidance. Don’t be afraid to send a LinkedIn message to a stranger who may have medical device sales experience you hope to one day achieve. Request a 15-minute phone call to ask them questions like how to prepare for an interview and what skills may be needed to succeed as a medical device sales rep. See the screengrab below of an actual LinkedIn message one of our medical device experts received that ended up as an informative phone call.

Another critical step in finding medical device sales jobs is to get a subscription to the go-to industry job site called MedReps.com. It is by far the most popular source for these kinds of sales jobs, with companies such as Teleflex, Stryker, and Boston Scientific. According to its website, half of its members report getting a face-to-face interview, and 1 in 5 received a job offer. You can choose different subscription levels, so it doesn’t have to be a long-term commitment if you end up getting a job. For under $20 a month, you can get access to thousands of medical sales jobs.

Other typical careers sites like Indeed may have medical device sales jobs, but they may not be for the most innovative companies or highest-paying jobs. That’s why MedReps.com is the go-to choice for so many candidates.

Lastly, you can go directly to the source and check out career pages on the medical device companies’ websites. They almost always post their open positions on these pages, however, it can be really hard to get a call or interview by applying this way. So many candidates attempt to apply this way and resumes can get lost in the shuffle, especially if you don’t have any experience. That’s why it’s so important to try to speak to someone directly, whether it’s the company’s hiring manager or recruiter.

Where do you find medical device sales jobs?

Just like you would sell a medical device at a health care facility, you’re selling yourself to recruiters and hiring managers. You have to work at it — you’re in sales, after all. Use your drive and motivation to make connections in the industry, win people over, and fight for an opportunity to get a job in one of the most competitive industries out there.
